Donations For Japan Disaster Are Getting Slow
The news regarding Japan disaster was all over the world and yet donations are coming too slow to arrive in the country. According to the Chronicle of Philanthropy, the amount of donations that came from nonprofit organizations has already made almost $87 million. This amount was way below against the donations during the Haiti and the hurricane Katrina which was $275 and $522 million respectively. This was mainly because of the perception that Japan is a rich country and that it has adequate supply of the basic needs. Another reason is that the Japanese government has not really asked for any assistance from other countries making it look like they can handle the job by themselves.
Excerpts:
“But most organizations told the Chronicle that they had raised less than $1 million and more than a dozen relief groups, including Doctors Without Borders, said they are not actively raising money for relief efforts at all.”
"The call to help has not necessarily been made by the Japanese government, so the perception is that Japan can handle this."
